Lightbulbs with a twist a bright idea

Style over substance, function before fashion, call it what you will but the challeng for tech innovators in interior design is to make their practical solutions look stylish (or is it to make the design features fully functional?)

Blending fashionable looks with functionality  was a challenge to which  British lighting brand Plumen rose and took comfortably in their stride.

In five years these guys have screwed together some mighty fine bulbs, with their second enviro-friendly creation (Plumen 002) now stocked in interiors stores globally.

Unlike most other designer lights on the market, Plumen’s products last (on average) 8 times longer while saving users 80% on their usual electricity bills.

Far from your average energy saving eyesore, these globes are glorious and in fact designed to be put on full show, earning Plumen the Brit Insurance Design of the Year by the Design Museum in London in 2011.

Best of all, at around $35 AUD these guys won’t break the bank. With plans for an uber-efficient LED bulb to be joining the Plumen family in the months to come, we think this is one brand’s got a bright future ahead.
