Colour: Warming up for Autumn

By Lucinda Starr

The days of stripped back, all-white minimalistic spaces may have finally come to an end. Dulux have sniffed out a change, one that promises to break the rules. These colour experts have released their Autumn 2015 colour forecast, and it seems like this season bolder really is better.

Breaking with recent trends, this latest prediction offers up retro 80s-inspired shades in playful block designs. Graphic prints in rich burnt oranges and deep cobalt blues will be splashed across interiors catalogues and magazines over the coming months. A refreshing departure from the barely-there neutrals, Autumn 2015 is all about experimental, out-of-the-box shades with a real sense of fun.

So where have these guys found their inspiration? Colour expert Andrea Lucena Orr calls back to the Pop Art and Memphis design movements for this season’s trends. Paired back with neutral woods and monochromatic block outlining, its time to get creative with colour and inject some warmth into your space.

Top colour picks (straight from the horse’s mouth):

  • Island Sea (vibrant turquoise)
  • Regalia (muted navy)
  • Capital Yellow (dusty mustard)
  • Bright Delight (burnt orange)
  • After Burn (soft orange)
  • Domino (deep charcoal)
