Night (and day) on the tiles

When you talk tiles with Chris Simpson, creative director of Bespoke Tile and Stone, you enter a world of luxury, opulence and natural wonder.

“You can’t go past marble in a high-end apartment,” he enthuses “It’s classic and on-trend all at once.”

The improvement in products that reduce noise transference means tiles have moved from wet spaces to living areas. As a result, Chris recommends using tiles to create statements, especially in a hallway or entrance.

“Tiles are great for when you walk in off the street. Chose a style that reflects the pedigree of your building. Deco for that period, stone colours for a modern style.”

Patterned tiles are making a comeback in chevron formations in black and white, grey on grey or in stone colours and the tiles can be large or small, depending on the impact you seek.

“We’re seeing black and white patterns in marble as well. White marble is popular in foyers. There’s a choice of veining in greys, gold or pink.”

Other on-trend options include timber looks, neutral colours in stone and a wide range of greys in porcelain tiles.
